Mentor-Facilitated Training Award Application

The NIDA CTN DI Mentor-Facilitated Training (MFT) Award is a key component of the SUD research dissemination effort. Through Sponsor-Partnerships with professional healthcare organizations, the MFT awardees choose experienced mentors to develop and implement a one-year SUD dissemination project. By leveraging published research, awardees develop tools and resources that contribute to the broader understanding and use of evidence-based approaches, skills, and treatments in SUD care.

Award Goals

  • Promote the dissemination of SUD research findings.
  • Increase utilization of evidence-based SUD treatment among healthcare providers.
  • Facilitate the professional growth and development of future clinician leaders in SUD management.

Applicant Eligibility

To be considered for the award, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • The applicant must be enrolled in a professional healthcare training program or an approved clinical residency or a clinical fellowship training program.
  • The applicant must not have a previous National Institutes of Health (NIH) research fellowship or award.
  • The applicant must not be a previous MFT awardee.

Mentor Eligibility

  • Expertise in dissemination and implementation science or clinical experience in SUD treatment/research.
  • Commitment to applicant and proposed project.
  • Expertise related to the proposed dissemination project.

Sponsor-Partner Organization Commitment

  • The Sponsor-Partner Organization will administer the MFT Award through planning, applicant and mentor coordination, and evaluation of applications.

Institutional Support

  • The commitment and willingness of the applicant’s institution to provide facilities and support to complete the project as described.

Award Selection
MFT applications will be reviewed by researchers, program managers and/or clinicians who are experienced in SUD research dissemination. MFT awardees are selected through a competitive process primarily based on the following:

  • Applicant Eligibility
  • Mentor Eligibility
  • Sponsor-Partner Commitment
  • Institutional Support
  • Application Rating
    ▪ Dissemination Project Merit
    ▪ Demonstrated Interest in SUD Field
    ▪ Award Stipend Adequacy
